Summer Program

Mayflower Early Childhood Center offers programs to children year-round. We follow the Minneapolis Public School calendar for the nine months of the school year. We close for one week at the end of the school year, for staff to clean the rooms and prepare for summer.

In 2013 our last day of the nine month program will be Friday May 24, 2013. We close at 11:30 AM that day and have an All Family Picnic at Veteran's Park. Our 2013 Summer Program begins on Monday, June 3, 2013, concluding on Friday, August 23.

Parents can choose to send their child to the full 12 weeks of the summer program or select specific weeks and even specific days for their child to participate. The Summer Program continues the regular activities of the classroom that your children enjoy from September to May, plus plenty of outdoor time in a safe, relaxed setting.

  • Outdoor games and play time
  • Vegetable and flower gardening
  • Water Day: the children wear swimsuits and enjoy fun, safe, outdoor water play
  • Arts and crafts
  • Picnic lunches in the shade
  • Flexible schedule (parents can enroll their child for select weeks or select days)
  • Food preparation and baking
  • Summer Program hours

Our AMI-trained Montessori teachers engage the children in a specially prepared environment using a stimulating Montessori curriculum. Areas featured:

  • Practical Life activities
  • Literacy and Kindergarten Readiness
  • Early mathematics
  • Sensorial materials
  • Music and movement
  • Science and nature
  • Art activities: painting, drawing, collage, sewing, rubbings and other crafts
  • Reading and story telling
  • Outdoor play
  • Snack

Everything in the classroom is designed to meet the developmental needs and interests of the children. In a Montessori environment, there is no ceiling to what children can learn, and they are able to advance through the curriculum as they are ready, without being limited by the progress of their peers.

Our teachers take great care in preparing the environment so that materials are arranged sequentially, children have comfortable work space, and there is freedom of physical movement.
